Gabriel red rescinded after ‘video evidence’

Arsenal have won their appeal against Gabriel’s red card after reportedly submitting ‘extra video evidence’ in support of the Brazilian defender. The Daily Mail claim that footage submitted by the Gunners casts doubt on a) the intent of Gabriel’s kick and b) the contact made on Chelsea striker Diego Costa. Gabriel will not serve a three-match ban for the red card – issued by Mike Dean in Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge – but could still serve a suspension if found guilty of improper conduct because of his failure to leave the pitch. An FA statement reds: ‘Arsenal’s claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to Gabriel has been upheld following an independent regulatory commission hearing. ‘The player’s three-match suspension has, therefore, been withdrawn with immediate effect. ‘Gabriel was dismissed for violent conduct during the game against Chelsea on Saturday [19 September 2015]. ‘The player is currently subject to a separate FA charge of improper conduct in relation to Saturday’s game and has until 6pm on Thursday [24 September 2015] to reply.’ Costa will serve a three-match ban after being found guilty of violent conduct for his clash with Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny.

Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal: Handshakes, handbags

Gabriel and Santi Cazorla were both sent off for Arsenal as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in which both sides reached their respective peaks.
Centre-half Gabriel fell victim to Diego Costa’s latest rendition of sh*thousery, in which the Spaniard was seen flailing his arms in the face of Laurent Koscielny before pushing the Frenchman to the floor with his chest.

http://www.vaneigenerffryslan.nl/newmercurialsuperfly2014.asp
Costa’s misdemeanors caught the attention of Koscielny’s team-mate, and after the pair were booked for their parts in the ensuing row, Gabriel was then shown a straight red card after kicking out at the striker seconds later.
It ignited a lifeless game between the two sides in which neither truly tested the opposition, with Asmir Begovic and Petr Cech saving tame attempts in the opening 45 minutes from Theo Walcott and Pedro respectively.
With Francis Coquelin hauled off at the break to make way for Calum Chambers, the hosts started to grasp the initiative, and it was defender Kurt Zouma who scored his first ever Premier League goal from a Cesc Fabregas free-kick which broke the deadlock after 53 minutes.

http://joycevandongen.com/asp/2014worldcupshoes.asp
Alexis Sanchez has a half-chance to equalise on the hour mark after defensive confusion between Zouma and Gary Cahill allowed the Chilean in, but he miscued his finish under pressure from Begovic.
Sanchez had a relatively subdued game up against under-fire Branislav Ivanovic, who bizarrely was not only not dropped but started as captain after John Terry was benched by Jose Mourinho.
As Arsenal laboured to create any meaningful opportunity when both a goal and a man down, Mourinho did what Mourinho does by replacing Oscar with Ramires after 70 minutes, thereby shutting up shop with a 1-0 lead at home against 10 men.
Arsene Wenger responded by taking off the disappointing Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, bringing on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Olivier Giroud in their wake.
The changes hardly had the desired effect however, as Santi Cazorla was sent off for a second bookable offence just minutes later, with a heavily-deflected Eden Hazard strike in stoppage time handing Chelsea their first home Premier League win of the season.

John Obi Mikel was then brought on in stoppage time as Mourinho managed to lift a second finger to form a ‘V’ in the direction of Wenger.
The defeat represents Arsenal’s second of the week after their demoralising Champions League reverse against Dinamo Zagreb, while it is also their second league defeat of the season.

For Chelsea, this is only their second Premier League win of the season, and it lifts them up to 11th.
Of course, all this pales in comparison to the real story of the afternoon: Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger shook hands.

The Sky Sports Era: Con Te Partirò

As you may or may not know, as of last weekend this website is no longer under the Sky banner, ending eight years under the ownership of British sport's most ubiquitous corporation. Therefore, we are now free to lift the lid on being part of such a behemoth, to tell you about being indirectly employed by Rupert Murdoch and for a time technically colleagues of Richard Keys and Tim Lovejoy, and to spill the beans on exactly what life under the yoke of this corporate giant was like. It wasn't too bad, actually. After Sky bought 365 Media Group in 2007, they largely left Football365 alone (aside from when some irresponsible writer got them sued a couple of times...), which obviously had its up sides and down sides; on the one hand we were last in the queue for things like technical upgrades and site designing, but on the other we could basically say what we wanted. Aside from a couple of ill-advised and not terribly nice comments about some Sky Sports News presenters (again, by some irresponsible writer...wonder why they didn't fire that guy...) and generally being discouraged from bigging up the competition too much, we weren't really placed under the sort of editorial restrictions that you might expect from a company like Sky. Geography probably played a part, as the F365 HQ is in Leeds and head office is a sprawling complex in Osterley, near Heathrow, but even when the hicks from the northern sticks travelled down to London, it was fine. The canteen is excellent (a canteen in which, as an aside, Lovejoy once apparently pushed to the front of the queue requesting that those waiting should 'make way for the talent'), there are loads of comfy chairs and you occasionally see Jeff Stelling wandering the halls. He is, as many famous people are in the flesh, shorter than you think. End of Season discount soccer shoes , please click

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal wants to sign a superstar

Louis van Gaal says he needs to sign a superstar to help achieve his ambition of winning the Premier League before he leaves the club in two years. Speaking with Sky Sports News HQ’s Vinny O’Connor, the Dutchman admitted that is the time limit he has given himself to win the Premier League title, after which he will walk away from the club, whatever happens. And to give himself the greatest chance of realising his ambition and delivering Manchester United's fourth European title, Van Gaal says he needs to sign a player like Cristiano Ronaldo."I think we still need more speed in front and also more creativity and that is why I want (Angel) Di Maria to stay, but, we don't know that so we will have to see,” he said. "Bayern Munich – they have Ribery and Robben. Chelsea have Hazard and Willian. Real Madrid: Ronaldo and Bale. Barcelona: Neymar and Messi. "(Ashley) Young and (Juan) Mata had fantastic seasons with assists and goals but to win the Champions League you need speed also. That is why I think, maybe, we still have to buy a player with speed and creativity." So is Ronaldo's return a realistic possibility?I cannot answer these questions. When we shall buy a player and he has signed, then we shall say. But not in a process and not in a strategy,” he said. "I cannot say that. I want to say it. For the fans I want to say it. But it is not smart. I have to protect the interests of the club." When asked what he thought of Ronaldo the player, he was a little more forthcoming. "Now, I make an exception for Ronaldo. He is a fantastic player. But he knows that. But I like him," he said.

Stewart Downing on Teesside for Middlesbrough medical

Stewart Downing has arrived back on his native Teesside as he prepares to rejoin former club Middlesbrough. The 30-year-old, who made 37 appearances for West Ham in the Premier League last season, returned north for a medical with the Championship side after being left out of the Hammers’ Europa League squad to face Birkirkara. Downing, capped 35 times for England, began his career with his home-town club before earning a £12m move to Aston Villa in July 2009. He then swapped life in the Midlands for Liverpool, who paid £20m for his services two years later. The 28-year-old, who scored 16 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions last season, is set to join for a reported £2.8m, with half of the fee going to his former club Reggina. A statement from Espanyol read: "The Uruguay striker will join Middlesbrough once he passes a medical and signs his contract with the English club.”

Arturo Vidal wanted at Bayern Munich by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge

Chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says he wants midfielder Arturo Vidal to join Bayern Munich from Juventus. The Italian Champions League finalists have received an offer from Bayern of £28m (€40m) for the Chile international midfielder, according to The Guardian. Vidal, who won the Copa America with Chile this summer, would be seen as a welcome addition at the Allianz Arena as coach Pep Guardiola looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new campaign. With the Bundesliga champions heading to China for an eight-day pre-season tour, Rummenigge told reporters at Munich airport: "I hope that Arturo Vidal will join us in the end. "I can't announce anything at the moment. If we sign someone, he would be a very good player." Rummenigge also confirmed that Mario Gotze would not be included in any deal to bring Vidal to Bayern, contrary to reports in the Italian press

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes urges players to concentrate in second leg

Derek McInnes heaped praise on his Aberdeen players after their stunning 3-0 Europa League qualifying win over Rijeka in Croatia but has warned his side that the tie is not finished yet. The Dons survived some early pressure in their second qualifying round first-leg match before goals from defender Andrew Considine, midfielder Peter Pawlett and substitute Kenny McLean put them in the driving seat ahead of the return game at Pittodrie. However boss McInnes, despite praising his players to the hilt, also urged caution ahead of the second leg next week.I was immensely satisfied and proud of the players' efforts," he said. "The conditions were very difficult, the Rijeka supporters stayed with their team and they kept trying to ask questions of us but we got goals at good times which gave the players a lift and I thought we were very smart with our work. "Our players were excellent in terms of their application and what we asked of them but that is the only part of the game, tactics and organisation. "The sheer endeavour and effort the players put in was very pleasing to see for me and very rewarding. "But it is still only half-time in the tie. It doesn't mean to say we can't feel good about ourselves for tonight's work but they are too good a team to think the tie is over.
